The Masterson Method ®

Developed in 2005, the Masterson Method is a unique form of equine bodywork that uses the nervous system to relieve tension in the junctions of the body most important for performance.

Working with the horse to identify changes in body language that shows where the horse is holding tension, when tension is released, when performance limiting issues might be developing.

Not Chiropractic but works well with it.

The Masterson Method teaches owners how to help keep their horse supple and sound between visits.

Appropriate for any horse competing, used casually or the backyard horse.

Bodywork refers to hands on therapeutic modalities

Bodywork is used to reduce harmful accumulated muscular tension that develops through the horses' work.

  • Excessive tension in the muscles causes uneven torque on the skeleton that can result in misalignment, excessive pressure on tendons and ligaments, reduced range of motion and pain.

  • Injuries, illnesses and stall rest can also cause unnatural tension compensation patterns.

PEMF

How and Why does PEMF Therapy relieve pain, reduce inflammation, increase blood flow and increase range of motion?

Increased energy, improved performance & sense of well-being, our multi-powered PEMF technology creates a systemic response that charges the entire body. This results in many physiological and biological changes, not just the targeted ones, which show improvement.

In relief with no medication, often with immediate and lasting response: When blood oxygen is increased, the lymphatic system is activated and acupuncture points are stimulated resulting in a decrease in pain and inflammation and the acceleration of healing. As a result of a multi-powered PEMF treatment, cells will change some of the sodium back to potassium, which is documented in a U.S. Government study, thus a reduction in pain in minutes.

  1. The Electro-Magnetic Pulse causes the body to generate very tiny micro currents, and the energy tends to run through the neural pathways. This seems to swamp the C fibers from accessing the neural gates which allow the pain signal to stream to the brain resulting in less-signal and less pain perception.

  2. The EquiPulse and Delta Pulse, which are multi-powered PEMF devices, are particularly effective in relieving deep muscle soreness, because of their deep penetration. PEMF therapy is also very effective but gentle for an area which may be too sore to touch and manually massage.

  3. Decreased inflammation and increased range of motion: Inflammation is a necessary and beneficial process initiated by the body to repair cellular damage in tissues but it often persists longer than necessary, creating pain and limiting movement, sometimes developing into chronic inflammation, which can lead to the ongoing tissue damage found in diseases like tendinitis, arthritis or psoriasis. Chronic inflammation is also a cause of cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, among many other disease conditions. It is interesting to note that normal cells are not usually impacted by magnetic fields. Compromised cells, called meta-stable cells, are more likely to be impacted. This means that PEMFs have more impact in circumstances where there is imbalance in tissues or cells, i.e., where there is pathology or chronic inflammation. in general, PEMF Therapy has been found to reduce chronic, damaging inflammation.

  4. Enhanced muscle function includes endurance, strength, recovery and muscle energy production improvement. This allows muscles to work harder and longer and recover more quickly from their work. Muscles that are contracted or in spasm are better able to relax, decreasing tension and reducing pain caused by spasm.

  5. Increased circulation: One of the most basic functions magnetic fields have in the body is to increase circulation, not by increasing heartbeat or blood pressure, but by opening and dilating the arteries and capillaries. When a cell (such as a red blood cell) is injured or ill, it does not hold its ideal electrical charge. This causes red blood cells to "stick" together, reducing circulatory flow. When a magnetic field passes through the cell, the membrane becomes properly charged, allowing the cell to repel itself and keep separate from other cells, thereby increasing circulation. Blood vessels dilate improving the amount of blood flowing through the vessels and therefore increasing the amount of oxygen delivered to the tissues.

    1. Poor circulation makes tissues unhealthy and prone to disease and breakdown. Improved circulation helps tissues receive the nutrition they need, while expelling the waste cells produce.

    2. Good circulation helps tissue with healing and regeneration, reduces swelling and bruising.

  6. Improved blood oxygenation: PEMF therapy helps with the process of extracting oxygen out of the air we breathe and help it be transported into the circulation. The absorbed oxygen is then transported throughout the body where it is absorbed into individual cells. Our cells need oxygen for cell metabolism, the energy necessary to function properly. Proper blood-oxygen levels at the cell level allow this process to continue efficiently. Impaired cell metabolism can lead to decreased performance levels, injuries, illness, and chronic disease.

  7. Faster & healthier recovery from exercise or injury: PEMF Therapy stimulates cell metabolism, which helps the cell take in more oxygen and nutrients and improves the Lymphatic (Detox) system allowing the cell to easily rid itself of damaging toxins and cellular waste. This reduces pain, inflammation, buildup of lactic acid and improves the overall healing capabilities. PEMF regenerates damaged or diseased tissues. PEMF enhances the synthesis of proteins allowing the body to take full advantage of proteins.

  8. Accelerated bone mending and wound healing: PEMF treatments improve the quality of calcium produced and mend bones in one-third of the normal time. Did you know that PEMF has been FDA Registered to stimulate bone growth in non-healing bone fractures since the late 1970's? The skin of the bone seems to develop cells more like the DNA dictates. PEMFs work to repair bones, whether damaged by surgery, injury or disease and have been found to improve bone regeneration such as occurs with osteoporosis and osteopenia, among other bone destroying conditions. Because PEMF regenerates damaged tissue wounds generally heal much faster, in one-third to one-half the time with less scarring.

  9. Relaxation, stress reduction and deep tissue manipulation through muscle stimulation: There is an apparent relaxing of the vascular system within minutes of completing an EquiPulse or Delta Pulse PEMF session, which can drop blood pressure by twenty to thirty percent.

  10. Stress is responsible for at least 65% of our illnesses and accelerates aging. Magnetic Fields have many stress-reducing effects and help to erase the negative effect natural stresses have on our bodies.

People and other animals usually enjoy their PEMF treatments. People often compare their sessions to a "deep tissue massage".

Is Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF treatment the same as Magnetic Blankets and Boots?

These PEMF Therapies are similar. However, the difference is in the delivery process and our technology's ability to actual target and focus the right level of PEMF energy to a horse's specific area requiring treatment. Traditional PEMF blankets deliver a low, consistent level of magnetic energy, which may not be adequate for deep injuries or in the large and denser parts of the equine anatomy.  As well, each PEMF device, fixed to a specific area of the blanket, directly affects those areas beneath the PEMF device. Thus, if a stifle requires treatment, a blanket may cover that area, the attached PEMF device may not, leaving that area untreated.

A PEMF field is measured in Gauss, the strength of the field and how far it emanates from its source. The body's cells need at least 20-30 Gauss in order to initiate cellular repair. Some studies have shown that higher Gauss levels, closer to 100, will create an optimal healing environment.  As a more powerful PEMF can deliver more Gauss at a greater distance from the delivery loop, it can penetrate through denser tissue. Thus, it is crucial for PEMF technologies to have the capacity to deliver the proper Gauss level in order to reach an injured or traumatized part of the Equine's anatomy.  The fundamental differences are:

  1. A Magnetica Equine PEMF device has the potential capacity to identify where a horse might be sore, traumatized or injured. This is because areas of soreness will contract/twitch in a specific manner and the horse may react much differently when that specific area is targeted, versus other targeted areas.  A Licensed Vet or experienced Technician may recognize this.

  2. Our high powered Equine PEMF devices are adjustable multi-powered with multi frequencies devices.  A Technician has the ability to adjust the Gauss to provide a gentle but optimal level of penetration to a specified body part to generate results at an accelerated rate.

  3.  Our technology includes proprietary delivery loops and accessories that will deliver the optimal level of power to indicated parts of the equine anatomy.  The efficacy of this type of precision increases when areas like abscess in hoofs and acupressure points, necks, the pole, hamstrings, interior of stifle, are targeted for a wide variety of unique equine medical issues from calming points to colic, to navicular.

Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF vs. CytoWave?

Excellent Article on Alternative Therapies

  1. The Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF will penetrate up to 16 inches. The CytoWave’s penetration is nominal 2 inches or less.

  2. The percussive contractions a Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF creates, instantly accelerates the benefits of vaso-dilation in a manner not possible with CytoWave.  The percussive muscular contractions not only create the mechanical pumping action to increase localized blood flow but may also breaks up adhesion and scarring deep in bundles of muscle fibers in the affected/treated tissue(s).  This is the same reason people share their spectacular results after one treatment.

  3. Cell permeability, production of Nitric Oxide, increases in cell metabolism and reduction of inflammation are massive in specific areas treated with the Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF device because of the deep penetration.

  4. Delivery Loops: The Magnus Magnetica Equine device's magnetic delivery loops are highly adaptable, flexible and way less prone to breakage. The Hoof Pro is the only Multi-Powered PEMF System capable of sending a PEMF signal directly into and through the Frog. No other electro-therapy device has been successfully designed to treat from under the hoof and to penetrate that deeply, including CytoWave.

  5.  Online sources report 30-minute CytoWave treatments. But CytoWave does not offer any specific treatment protocols other than “Carefully attach the CW leg wrap on this way or that way”…same with its other treatment applicators.

  6.  CytoWave:  “This proprietary electromagnetic treatment method is not PEMF and should not be confused with this older technology”   see: http://www.cytowave.com/how-cytowave-works.html  -  Magnus Magnetica PEMF is not a "older technology".  Our multi-powered / multi-frequency PEMF is a crucial and emerging technology in the field of regenerative medicine during the last 10 years. It continues to be adopted because of its unparalleled ability to quickly address muscle-skeletal issues on humans, equine and small animals.

Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF vs. Laser Treatments?

While both the Laser and Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF therapy deliver increased energy to areas of need, the following are the main points of differentiation:

  1. The Magnus Magnetica Equine delivery loops have the ability to generate a much wider focal area. Our Multi-Powered PEMF technology can send more magnetic energy deeper into the body while a Laser has a very small focal area of less than in inch.

  2. Because only the injured or traumatized areas will contract/twitch with the use of an EquiPulse, the Technician may be able to detect and identify where a horse may be injured or very sore. A Laser lacks the capacity ability to detect soreness.

  3. The Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF can travel up to 16 inches into the Equine body. Lasers have a limited penetration of less than 2 inches, unless the laser's power is increased, along with that is a greater potential to damage the cells at the surface.

  4. Whole body treatments can take 30 to 45 minutes with a Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF System. Because Lasers have a small focal point, it is logistically impossible to treat a large area of the horse anatomy, essentially making a full body treatment unlikely.

Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF vs. Shockwave?

The following are the primary differentiation considerations:

  1. Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF may be able to detect and identify where a horse may be injured or very sore. Shockwave has no ability to detect soreness, just treatment of a specific point.

  2. Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF can be used on the whole body. Shockwave can only be done on a specific point such as back or legs.

  3. Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF is non-invasive, and sedation is not required, while horses quickly relax and enjoy the treatment. Shockwave is invasive and can be painful as it creates energy by high-impact acoustic waves and concussion.

  4. Because of the potential for damage and required sedation, a Shockwave treatment is generally administered by a licensed Veterinarian.

  5. A Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF can reach up to 16 inches into the body. Shockwave has a maximum penetration of about 4 inches.

Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF vs. P3?

  1. The P3 PEMF Device is similar to the Magnus Magnetica Equine device, but only in one aspect. That is the delivery of a PEMF signal to a targeted body part where the loops are placed

  2. The P3 Device has only one setting, which is at high voltage, resulting in one level of intensity. Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF has a variable intensity setting

  3. There is only one PEMF delivery loop that is permanently attached to the P3. a Magnus Magnetica Equine PEMF has a number of delivery loops that can be switch out, dependent upon the body part being treated. The P3 delivery loop and stiff and is floated closer to the selected body part being treated, depending upon the desired intensity. The closer the loop to the body part the greater the intensity and deeper the penetration of the PEMF field. On the other hand, the delivery loops of a Magnus Magnetica Equine devices are soft a pliable and can be comfortable wrapped around the selected body part. The Technician can easily adjust the intensity and frequency setting on the Magnus Magnetica Equine device.
